The Departments of Biotechnology and Robotics and Automation Engineering, conducted an online Webinar “Sustainable Development Goals and Climate Change” for II-year students of both departments, on March 25th 2023.The Convenors of the event was Mr.M.Matheswaran HoD/R&A, Dr.C.Nirmala HOD/BT and Mrs.S.Sowdeshwari Assistant Professor, CIVIL was Staff Coordinator. The Resource person was Mr. K.Roja Magesh M.E.,(Env) (Ph.D.,) Head of Department of Civil Engineering in Mother Theresa College of Engineering and Technology. F.Sumariya Tasneem II Year B.Tech Biotechnology gave the welcome address followed by presidential address given by Dr.C.Nirmala HOD/BT. Ms. I.Deepika II-year B.Tech Biotechnology student, briefed the profile of the speaker and invited for the session.
The Resource person explained the concepts of Global Goals and the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development. It seeks to end poverty and hunger, realize the human rights of all, achieve gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls, and ensure lasting protection of the planet and its natural resources. Also, she explained many of the challenges faced by humankind, such as climate change, water scarcity, inequality and hunger that can only be resolved at a global level. She then explained that sustainable practices can help strengthen community bonds, improve quality of life and provide hope for a better future for the society. Environmentally, sustainable practices can help protect natural resources, adapt to and mitigate climate change and promote biodiversity. The lecture was very informative and covered all aspects related to sustainable development goals and climate change, acknowledging the global significance of climate change. It also insisted on bringing solutions to the problems faced by society and encouraged the students in the departments of Biotechnology and Robotics and Automation Engineering.A total of 77 students attended the online webinar that was a thought provoking session.
