The Department of Safety and Fire has conducted an online Webinar “Safety Measures in Construction Machineries” for II- and III-year students on March 22, 2023. The Event was organized by Mr.M.Matheswaran HoD, S&F, Convenor, Mrs.S.Sowdeshwari Assistant Professor, CIVIL was the Staff Coordinator of the event. The Resource person was Mr.M.Premnath, Project Engineer, Shizha S.A.R.L construction , DR Congo. The session started with a welcome address by S.Sowdeshwari, AP/CIVIL, followed by a presidential address given by Principal sir Dr.M.Premkumar. Ms.C.Astalakshmi, II-year B.Tech Biotechnology student, briefed the profile of the speaker and invited for the session.
The Resource person spoke about the concept of common risk factors faced by construction workers that can turn out to be life-threatening. When it comes to protecting workers at a job site, personal protective equipment (PPE) is the best option. These PPE guards work against accidents and prevent injuries. Also, he said that workers should be trained on the proper procedures to safely operate all pieces of equipment that they will be working on. He then detailed every step involved in the occupational safety and health administration (OSHA). The lecture was very informative with a narration of good practical examples. It covered all aspects related to the safety measure in construction machinery, acknowledging the global significance of safety and fire. He also emphasized that projects should bring solutions to the problems faced by society and encouraged the students in the field of safety and fire Engineering.
A total of 55 students attended the lecture with a total duration of 1.30 hours. It was a thought provoking session and it concluded by answering the queries of students. It was followed by vote of thanks given by Ms.Monisha R, II-year Biotechnology. The feedback form was posted at the end of session and e – certificates were issued for the active participants.
